Cube distance contest

How far can your cube go? Your cube is in a contest with 9 other cubes to go the furthest distance from the Art Institute by January 31, 2010. You may pass your cube on to anyone who can help, and your cube can travel by any available method. Document its travels along the way with words and photos (making sure something is identifiable in the background). Your contribution may appear in a special display at the Art Institute.

#1 Daniel Teafoe completed the task.

194/500 kind of a plain little box. Not near the front, not near the back. But inconspicuously in the middle. No razzle dazzle being the same front way and back like 005/500. Oh, but what a lucky box! Not because of your shape, your color, or your size, but rather due to who has found you!

Just look at the beauty you have seen in one brief day, your first day found. Being a low class box from a high class place there is not much expected of you, but oh the luck that has befallen you. Just think, you may see the Rolling Stones, a Beatle, or U2. Or travel London, Paris, Rome. You may be picked up by a knight.

But let’s not fathom what may happen to you little box; let’s just reflect on the hands that have found you…an artist (oh how lucky being from an art institute), a world traveler (what a match since your destiny is to travel the world), a photographer (just look how you shine with such beautiful backdrops), an innovator (how wonderful you will look in 3-D), an actor (you missed Grease and The Beast, but think of where you may pop up next), a friend (it is great to get together little box), but most importantly family (you’re in good hands little box if you are considered in this family).

Good luck little box and 3DT!

"Shave Ice", not SHAVED ICE, or snowcone or ICEE, nothing like that, just plain old "Shave Ice". Its like the others only bigger, much bigger, and it comes covered in a single flavor of syrup or covered in a couple of delicious flavors. I get it with pina colada syrup, my fav. Anyway, the picture is supposed to tell the story, not me.

Would you believe they even have hotdog vendors in Honolulu? The girl working the stand didn't want her picture taken so this was the best I could do. I did have a dog slathered in mustard and onions for lunch, though. Delicious. Found the stand just down from the state judicial office.

On the balcony of the San Paolo Maggiore Basilica, overlooking the statue of San Gaetano, by Cosimo Fanzago. The statue was created in 1657, in honor of the saint who saved the city from fever and the plague.
It is in the ancient forum of the city, where Roman emperors were received. During the Angioin reign, wars and the destiny of the reign were decided there.

A must see on O'ahu, the USS Bowfin (SS-287) is a fleet attack submarine that fought in the Pacific during WWII, and helped to make famous the term, “Silent Service.” Bowfin was launched on 7 December 1942, exactly one year to the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. She was nicknamed the Pearl Harbor Avenger. On this day, Cube #194 payed its respects to all the fallen seamen.

The Kaiten or Human Torpedo was used by the Japanese during WWII. The most successful attack was the sinking of the fleet tanker Mississinewa in Ulithi anchorage on 20 November 1944; the destroyer escort Underhill was also sunk on 24 July 1945. A few other ships were damaged. In the Japanese human torpedo program, eight mother submarines and almost 900 lives were lost.
